Americans Expect Fewer Price, Rate Increases
Fannie Mae's monthly Home Purchase Sentiment Index surveys Americans and asks them for their perception of the housing market and economy. Survey respondents are asked whether they think now is a good time to buy or sell a home, what they expect mortgage rates and home prices to do, and how they feel about their job and finances. Mortgage Rates Fall for 2nd Straight Week
According to the Mortgage Bankers Association's Weekly Applications Survey, average mortgage rates fell last week from one week earlier. Rates fell for 30-year fixed-rate loans with both conforming and jumbo balances, loans backed by the Federal Housing Administration, and 15-year fixed-rate loans. Home Sales Return to Pre-Pandemic Levels
New data from the National Association of Realtors shows sales of previously owned homes fell in May. Existing home sales were down 3.4 percent from the month before and 8.6 percent from one year earlier. The decline is evidence that the market is beginning to level off, after two years of frenetic activity.
